On Saturday, May 18, John Ratcliff and the BPA hosted Statesboro's inaugural "Thrill of the First Flight" event at the Statesboro-Bulloch County Airport, but the weather didn't cooperate for the much anticipated event.
A total of 115 kids were signed up to take their first flights, but due to the stormy weather, only five of them got to go. Ratcliff decided to let the older kids go first, seniors down, because this will be their last opportunity to participate in the event.
Thankfully, organizers were able to reschedule the event for this Saturday, June 15. With all 115 flight slots full again, they are expecting a great turnout and much better weather this time.
The event takes place from 9am-2pm at the airport (601 Statesboro Airport Blvd, Statesboro, GA 30461), and local aviation experts will share their passion and knowledge, from aircraft insight to career guidance, with the youth in attendance.
While all the free flight slots remain full, organizers do have a waitlist. Please contact Beth Williams at 912-541-1499 or John Ratcliff at 313-585-0642 for additional event information.
