Bulloch County Fire Department achieved yet another milestone on Monday with the staffing of the Register fire station with full time firefighters/first responders beginning on Monday.

Jeremy Kinsey, full time Bulloch Firefighter and Jaron Bishop, part time Bulloch Firefighter reported for their 24 hour shift at 8:00 a.m. on Monday. They immediately ran their first call which was a car fire on Hwy. 46. They had a six minute response time to the fire.

The other two staffed stations are located in Brooklet and Portal. The response time from either of those stations would to this call would have been over 20 minutes.

"This staffed station is a great step forward for our small and growing department," said Joe Carter, Bulloch Fire Prevention Officer. "We have a huge desired to provide the best fire and emergency response service possible to the citizens of Bulloch County. Even though our department is small and much of our team is young, we are establishing a positive culture of firefighting success."

The register fire station has sleeping quarters, a kitchen and restrooms with showers. The four bay station has a new engine, new tanker and ladder truck at the station.

The staffing of this station was made possible with three new firefighters that joined the department full-time on Monday. With their addition the department staff increased to 15 full-time firefighters and 8 part-time firefighters.

Staffing the counties stations full-time is part of the counties long range fire service expansion plan. Each station that is staffed dramatically decreased call response time for fire and first responders for accidents or medical emergencies.

Community welcome to stop in

Mitch Sikes, Bulloch Fire Training Officer encouraged citizens who live in the Register area to stop by the station and help welcome the firefighters to their community. "We always welcome the opportunity for citizens to stop by any of our stations and meet our firefighters. They love showing off the stations and the equipment to everyone, especially children. Getting to know the community is important to our mission in protecting and serving the community."
