Record-breaking Tasting Statesboro featured a night of culinary delight and community impact at The Tip

The 14th annual Tasting Statesboro the United Way turned the Anthony P. Tippins Family Training Facility into a vibrant hub of culinary excellence and community spirit. With record-breaking attendance and funds raised, this beloved event not only showcased the best local cuisine but also raised vital funds for local nonprofits during a crucial time.

The Anthony P. Tippins Family Training Facility at Paulson Stadium took on a new role Wednesday night, transforming into a premier event space for the 14th annual Tasting Statesboro the United Way. This year’s event, hosted by the United Way of Southeast Georgia on August 14, 2024, marked a significant milestone as it expanded and elevated its presence in "The Tip." Over 600 attendees, sponsors, and supporters were wowed by the record-breaking event and the seamless integration of this community-focused event with Georgia Southern University.

Tasting Statesboro the United Way has long been one of the area’s most anticipated social gatherings, and this year was no exception. The event is not just a culinary showcase featuring over 40 local restaurants—it’s a powerful opportunity for the community to unite and support a worthy cause.

Since its inception in 2011, Tasting Statesboro the United Way has raised awareness and funds for local nonprofit agencies. The event invites attendees to sample a wide variety of cuisines from some of the area’s most beloved eateries. From breakfast delights to indulgent desserts, coffee, beer, and wine, there’s something for everyone. Beyond the generous offerings from local restaurants, the event is backed by presenting sponsor Brodie International and joining over 50 annual sponsors, whose support is critical to the event’s success.

This year’s Tasting Statesboro held even greater significance as the community rallied in the wake of the recent flooding caused by Hurricane Debby. Many of the charities supported by the event were called into action, providing vital assistance during and after the storm.

As guests wandered through the seemingly endless array of savory small plates and sweet treats, they also had the chance to participate in the "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is" campaign, donating to their favorite restaurants. The top contenders were Jim 'N Nick's BBQ, Cosmic Cowboy BBQ, and Bull and Barrel Steakhouse, who collectively raised substantial funds for the cause.

The event also featured a VIP section, where major sponsors were honored. Attendees mingled, enjoying the evening’s signature drink, Purple Reign, while Georgia Southern’s iconic mascot, Gus, made his rounds, posing for photos with delighted guests.

One of the evening’s highlights was the 50/50 raffle, where Alana Davis was thrilled to win the $750 prize. The evening’s ambiance was further enhanced by the live music of the Tall Paul Trio, whose tunes provided the perfect backdrop as a balmy breeze drifted through the training facility.

Their efforts, supported by a dedicated team of United Way board and committee members, ensured that the event was the talk of the town.
