The Statesboro-Bulloch County Library seed library has recently been restocked! The seed library carries a variety of vegetable and flower seeds for patrons to take home for free. The seed library is restocked weekly throughout the summer.

Caroline Johnson, Library Manager, started the Seed Library in the the spring of 2023. She shares, “Many libraries have seed libraries, and it was a popular request. I was able to get it started with the help of our Friends of the Library, including the late George Brannen.”

The seed library runs on an honor system that a patron take only one to two packets per visit. No library card is required.

Johnson says they purchase seeds and accept labeled seeds for donation as well. The library also has a seed swap program.

Held in the library atrium, the Seed and Crop Swap program is for local gardeners to swap seeds and meet each other. Johnson explains if some gardeners have an abundance of a certain plant, they can swap that as well.

The next Seed and Crop Swap will be held July 15th from 5:30-6:30pm in the library atrium.

She says some patrons choose to leave extra seeds for the library to use for the Seed Library.
