Multiple law enforcement agencies responded early Friday morning, November 15, 2024, to secure a section of Cambridge at Southern - The Pines apartments, located at 122 Lanier Drive, following an armed suspect incident. Residents and visitors were advised to avoid the area while the situation unfolded.

According to Statesboro Police Chief Mike Broadhead, the incident began just before 5:00 a.m. when a Georgia Southern University Police officer attempted to stop a suspect seen entering a vehicle. The suspect, armed with a handgun, fled on foot and took refuge in an apartment at Cambridge.

Georgia Southern Police and Statesboro Police quickly secured the area. The Statesboro Police SWAT team was called in to assist with the situation.

Seven individuals who were inside the apartment exited and were detained for questioning. Police then requested a warrant to enter the apartment to apprehend the suspect.

Around 7:45 AM officers took the suspect into custody without further incident or injuries to the suspect for officers.

Detectives will remain on location for several hours processing the scene.

In April of this year, SPD Officer Joey Deloach was shot and critically wounded by a suspect caught entering vehicles at a nearby apartment complex.

Last night, SPD Officer Nicholas Sparks-Hoskins was named one of the Bulloch County Officers of the year for his heroic actions in saving Officer Deloach's life during that incident.
