OTC students earn gold, silver, and bronze medals at State SkillsUSA competition

Ogeechee Technical College’s SkillsUSA team earned a gold medal, two silver medals, and one bronze medal at the SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership and Skills Conference held in Atlanta from February 20-22, with standout performances in Esthetics and Cybersecurity, including gold medalist Sophia Lewis, who will compete at the national conference in June.

The Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) SkillsUSA team won a gold medal, two silver medals, and one bronze medal at the SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, February 20-22.

Ogeechee Technical College secured gold (Sophia Lewis) and silver (Georgia Ledford) in Esthetics and silver (Richard Fountain & Devin Chizmar) and bronze (Kaytlyn Colson & Andrew Mitchell) in Cybersecurity. The college’s HVAC competitor (Adam Bland) also delivered a strong performance. Both the Esthetician and Cybersecurity programs have consistently medaled in past years.

“I had a great time at Skills USA,” said Lewis. “I learned a lot from the experience and I’m very excited for Nationals!”

The students who competed at the conference had the opportunity to prepare resumes, network, and take exams as part of the experience. By earning a gold medal in Esthetics, Lewis will have the opportunity to compete in the national conference in Atlanta in June.
