Ogeechee Technical College’s (OTC) Dental Assisting Program hosted children from the local Smiles, Giggles, and Hugs pre-K on Monday, March 26.
The Dental Assisting students played games with the pre-K students, talked about germ bugs (bacterial plaque), and gave lessons on proper brushing and flossing. The pre-K students enjoyed sitting in the big dental chair and using the high-volume dental suction tool called “Mr. Thirsty.”
“I’m happy that we have the opportunity to share this information with the children,” said Program Director Yvonne Jenkins. “Every year our students get the pleasure of teaching a new generation of young children the importance of proper dental care. It’s important that these children start good dental health habits now for a lifetime of good oral health.”
The event serves as a great partnership to help Dental Assisting students fulfill the portion of their curriculum that requires them to learn how to educate and counsel patients in the areas of dental disease, oral hygiene, and nutrition.
