Local swimmers shine in 2024 Georgia Swimming State Competitions

Southern Eagle Aquatics showcased their talent and determination at the Georgia Swimming 14 and under Age Group State Championship and the Senior State Long Course Championship, with standout performances by several athletes who achieved personal bests and represented Statesboro with distinction.

Four athletes from the Southern Eagle Aquatics swim club team competed in the annual Georgia Swimming 14 and under Age Group State Championship meet, held July 19-21 at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA. One athlete also competed in the Senior State Long Course Championship meet, held July 26-28 in Athens, GA.

Together they represented Statesboro among the top swimmers from around the state of Georgia.

Davine Chen, 10, achieved state qualifying times and competed in four events: Girls 50M Free, 50M Breast, 100M Breast, and 100M Free. She earned a personal best time in the 50M Free (36.61).

Easton Moore, 10, achieved state qualifying times and competed in six events, Boys 50M Free, 100M Back, 50M Breast, 50M Fly, 100M Free, and 50M Back. He also earned a personal best time, 47.70 in the 50M Back.

Kendall Griffith, 14, competed in eight events, achieving personal best times in Boys 100M Fly (1:07.93), 200M IM (2:37.14), 100M Free (1:00.91), 100M Breast (1:23.21), and 50M Free (27.67). He also qualified for the Finals and earned personal best times in Boys 200M Free (2:10.18) for 23rd place overall, 22nd place in the 200M Fly (2:38.17), and 25th place in the 400M Free (4:41.72).

Ethan Swanson, 14, competed in eight events achieving personal best times in Boys 100M Fly (1:08.91), 200M Free (2:13.65), 100M Back (1:10.39), 200M IM (2:33.17), and 50M Free (28.20). He additionally qualified for the Finals in Boys 200M Back (2:31.49) earning a personal best and 24th place overall in the state of Georgia.

Chloe Hodges, 17, competed in four events at Senior State Championship, achieving personal best times in Women 100M Breast, and 50M Back. She qualified for Finals in the Women 50M Breast, placing 28th while earning a personal best time (37.52).

Both Championship meets were sponsored by the Georgia Local Swimming Committee, a division of USA Swimming, the governing body for competitive swimming in the US Olympic Movement.

The Southern Georgia Aquatic Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which governs the Southern Eagle Aquatics (SEGA) Team. SEGA is the only local registered certified club team of USA Swimming. SEGA offers local and travel options for competitive swimming, as well as stroke lessons for youth and adults around Bulloch County. SEGA Swim Team adheres to Safe Sport practices and promotes sportsmanship, exemplary character, and excellence in swimming and beyond.

Team practices are held at Mill Creek’s Splash in the Boro Aquatic Pool, Monday through Thursday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm and Saturdays from 8am to 10am. SEGA welcomes all interested to join.
