Georgia Southern Theatre brings the Georgia Playwright Kimberly Belflower’s coming of age play, "John Proctor is the Villain” to the Black Box Theatre, running from February 26 to March 2, 2025.

At a high school in a one-stoplight town in Georgia, an English class is studying The Crucible, but the students are more preoccupied with navigating young love, sex ed, and a few school scandals. As the students delve into the American classic, they begin to question the play’s perspective and the validity of naming John Proctor the show’s hero.

With deep wells of passion and biting humor, this comedy captures a generation mid-transformation, running on pop music, optimism, and fury, discovering that their future is not bound by the past and that they have the power to change it all.

Filled with the dynamic energy of teenagers exploring their present, join the GS Theatre company as they dig into both the humor and pathos of being young in America. (Content warning: the play deals with adult themes about sexuality and contains adult language.)

The play will show nightly at 7:30pm from February 26 to March 1, with the closing show as a 2pm matinee on March 2. The Black Box Theatre in the Center for Art and Theatre (233 Pittman Dr., Statesboro) will host the show, and tickets are $6.00 for students and $12.00 for general admission.
