Georgia Southern men's soccer head coach Lee Squires announced the promotion of James Smith to associate head coach on Thursday, January 4.
"I'm delighted for James," said Squires. "He works tirelessly and is someone I know I can trust 100%. It's a testament to his hard work and commitment that we are able to make this announcement and promotion, and it is very much deserved. We both feel like we're just scratching the surface here at Georgia Southern and are excited for all that's to come."
Smith earns his promotion after the Eagles saw vast improvements during the 2023 season, which boasted peaks such as the program's second draw against a nationally ranked team and its first conference victory since 2019.
The Eagles will return to practice during the spring semester, with a spring exhibition schedule to be announced later in the semester.
The announcement comes after the departure of assistant coach Joe Moulden, who is moving on to pursue other professional opportunities.
