Three people were transported to area hospitals after a Thursday, March 14, 2024, single vehicle roll over crash outside of Statesboro, Georgia.
At 5:00pm, Bulloch County 911 Operators dispatched Bulloch County EMS, Statesboro Fire, Bulloch Sheriff's Deputies, and Georgia State Patrol Troopers to a single vehicle accident at Hwy. 80 just past the Akins Pond Road intersection.
Bulloch County Sheriff's Deputies were the first on the scene and confirmed there were multiple people injured, and two were entrapped in the vehicle that was resting on its side. They requested rescue and additional ambulances.
Bulloch County EMS responded with three ambulances to the scene and a Quick Response Vehicle.
As Statesboro Firefighters worked to extract the victims from the vehicle, Paramedics requested multiple helicopters to the scene.
Sheriff's Deputies and Statesboro Firefighters established a landing zone at William James Middle School, just down the road from the accident.
Air Evac and LifeStar landed one helicopter each at the school, where they met two Bulloch County Ambulances and transferred the patients from the ambulances to the helicopters.
A third ambulance transported the third victim to East Georgia Regional Medical Center's Emergency Department.
According to GSP Post 45 Sergeant Robbie Scott, a Dodge Ram was traveling west on Hwy. 80. Witnesses stated that the driver was driving very erratically across the roadway, nearly sideswiping another car.
The driver over-corrected the Dodge Ram, crossing over the median and then crossing over the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 80. The truck then struck the ditch and began to roll before it struck a tree and rested on its side.
One occupant was ejected from the vehicle, and two others were entrapped. All are in serious condition.
GSP Post 45 Trooper First Class Keith McCarty is handling the investigation.
This is the second serious accident that has occurred around this intersection in less than a week. However, Sergeant Scott said this accident was not related the intersection.
