Earlier this week, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced that he was extending the State of Emergency in Georgia as well as suspending the gas tax.

By executive order on October 1, he extended the State of Emergency through Wednesday, October 9, 2024. The collection of motor fuel and diesel fuel taxes are suspended for the duration of the order.

The order states that Hurricane Helene has negatively impacted the supply chain of goods and services in impacted areas and has impacted the social and economic wellbeing of citizens. Kemp's order also states that the above actions are necessary and appropriate to ensure continuation of storm response and recovery efforts, protect the strength of Georgia's economy, and provide for the health, safety, and welfare of residents and visitors.

The order officially went into effect on Thursday, October 3.
