Keep Statesboro-Bulloch Beautiful (KSBB), an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, is on a mission in the City of Statesboro, dedicated to community beautification and waste reduction. Recently, a remarkable cleanup effort took place thanks to the collaborative efforts of local volunteers.
Holly Sawyer, a board member of KSBB, was struck by the overwhelming amount of litter along the sidewalks bordering Highway 301 near the entrance to Sweetheart Circle. Determined to make a change, she sought help.
Opportunity knocked when a friend mentioned the need for community service hours for his fraternity at Georgia Southern University. Cody Akins, Community Service Chair for Phi Delta Theta, stepped up to the challenge. On a Tuesday afternoon, several young men gathered to contribute to keeping 'The Boro' beautiful.
In just one hour, this group of brothers managed to collect over 200 pounds of trash. Their haul included plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and bits of tire, collected from the walkways and creek beds around Main Street and Highway 301.
Parker Eberly, a brother from Phi Delta Theta, shared his thoughts on the experience, saying, "It felt amazing to do something impactful for this community. Although we picked up a good amount of trash, there is still much more work to do. We will definitely be back and can't wait to partner up again."
This monumental task of maintaining a clean and beautiful community wouldn't have been possible without the dedication of volunteers like the valiant members of Phi Delta Theta.
