Georgia Southern University recently introduced the REACH for Southern program, a co-curricular program that complements the REACH Georgia need-based scholarship and mentoring program, which offers high school students support to achieve postsecondary success.

“We are very grateful to Georgia Southern University for their continued support of REACH Georgia,” said Justin Gargala, executive director of REACH Georgia. “By collaborating with our postsecondary partners, we can ensure REACH scholars receive not only financial assistance, but also academic and personal mentorship to excel and become leaders in their communities.”

REACH Georgia, a statewide mentoring and scholarship program run by the Georgia Student Finance Authority, provides up to $10,000 in scholarships to low-income students who demonstrate academic persistence. Since 2012, the program has expanded from five participating school districts, including Bulloch County, to support students in all 180 public school systems in the state. The program now includes more than 5,000 scholars and has committed more than $55 million in scholarships.

Georgia Southern is one of more than 25 University System of Georgia REACH-eligible institutions and awards match funding to incoming students who meet the program criteria. The REACH for Southern program initiative is a year-round, co-curricular program that provides monthly engagement activities for REACH Scholars and holistic support through the University’s extensive campus resources.

“We are proud to support our REACH Scholars through the REACH for Southern program,” said Jazzkia Jones, director of Georgia Southern’s Office of Inclusive Excellence. “Through resources, mentorship and community-building events, we aim to equip students to excel both academically and personally.”

Thank you to Georgia Southern University for its generous support of Grice Connect.
