Now that Hurricane Helene has exited the area, Georgia Power is working diligently to restore service safely and quickly to every affected customer. The first step in power restoration after a storm event is damage assessment, which occurs both remotely and in the field. Damage assessment teams survey areas to determine what tools, resources, and supplies are needed to restore power most efficiently to the largest amount of customers. Across the southeast region, crews performing damage assessments faced accessibility challenges due to extensive tree damage and debris. As you know, the fifteen (15) southeast region counties were some of the hardest hit areas by the storm.
Additional restoration resources have been arriving in our area throughout the day with a significant influx expected to arrive on Saturday. Restoration activities will continue non-stop, 24/7 until every customer is restored. Georgia Power expects to have estimated restoration times for remaining outages, by geographical area, late Saturday afternoon.
On behalf of the thousands of Georgia Power employees, contractors, and off-system resources working to restore service in the southeast region, thank you for your patience and understanding.
