GAME PREVIEW: Eagles to Head Deep in the Heart of Texas

The Georgia Southern football team heads to Texas on Saturday to take on Texas State in a key Sun Belt tilt at Bobcat Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5:02 p.m. (ET)/4:02 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on ESPN+. The game will also be available via radio on the Georgia Southern Sports Network. Of Note:

  • Georgia Southern and Texas State have met six previous times in a series that dates back to 2005 with the Eagles holding a 5-1 lead. After the Bobcats won the first meeting, a 50-23 victory at home in the 2005 I-AA Playoffs, the Eagles have won the last five contests since joining the Sun Belt in 2014. 
  • Despite the 5-1 lead in the series for the Eagles, the games have been close. Four of the contests have been one-possession games with the Eagles winning 38-30 in San Marcos in 2021, 40-38 in Statesboro in 2020, 15-13 in San Marcos in 2017 and 28-25 in San Marcos in 2014. 
  • In the four games played at Bobcat Stadium in the series, Texas State has barely outscored Georgia Southern 118-116.
