A lively lineup of local singers brought the community of Portal together for an evening of music, food, and fellowship at the first ever "Shindig at the Still." The still will host the annual Turpentine Festival later this fall.

On June 22nd at 7pm, the Portal Heritage Society hosted a lively event called “Shindig At The Still,” drawing community members together for an evening of music, food, and fellowship. The event, inspired by the community’s yearly Turpentine Festival, showcased vibrant local talent.

Attendees were treated to performances by a lineup of local singers including Addie Smith, Jake Hallman, Myles Willis, Joseph Turturro, Kirstin Denise Powell, Matt Dillon Thompson, and Corey Smith. Each performer brought their own unique style to the stage, creating a memorable experience for all present.

Adding to the festivities was the delicious food vendor Double Town BBQ. Their loaded BBQ fries and chicken tenders were a hit, with many attending praising the flavors and quality.

The event, sponsored by local restaurant Pour House Pub, saw a good turnout, reflecting the strong community spirit and support for local traditions. Tim Cook, President of the Portal Heritage Society, expressed his gratitude and highlighted the importance of such events for the community.

“This is a big event for the community. Portal does not have a lot of events unless we put something on. We try to do something for the community, bring the community together, and have a good time. It is important for the community to be involved with what we do because we could not do it without the community, “ Cook said.

Looking ahead, the Portal Heritage Society is planning to host another Shindig in September and aims to make “Shindig At The Still” an annual event.

The organization is always seeking donations or sponsorships to support their efforts in fostering community engagement and preserving local heritage. Individuals can donate or join the organization through their website portalheritagesociety.com or by calling 470-851-6633
