GALLERY | Chick Day 2025: Family fun and feathered friends

The much-anticipated yearly tradition of Chick Day at Anderson's General Store returned to the delight of children and adults, where the family-friendly activities ensured a memorable time for all. This year, the chicks were in particularly high demand, as egg prices continue to soar.

"What has that got to do with the price of eggs?" has historically been a rhetorical question, but at Chick Day, held annually at Anderson's General Store, the answer was a resounding, "Everything!"

On March 8th, 2025, Chick Day, the annual time-honored tradition for many local residents, unfolded as a day of fun and joy, creating memories for families to cherish. This year's celebration lived up to its reputation, offering a wide variety of activities that kept attendees entertained and engaged throughout the event.

One of the most anticipated events was the inaugural egg hunt. Children searched high and low for hidden eggs, adding an "egg-stra" layer of excitement to the festivities. The fun of discovering colorful eggs and the surprise treats inside brought joy to both children and adults. One child was even fortunate enough to go home with the rare, sole golden egg.

Of course, no Chick Day would be complete without the stars of the show—chicks! Adorable fluffy chicks tweeted and charmed everyone with their cuteness, providing plenty of opportunities for cuddles and photos.

Rachel Wiggins, Director of Marketing for Anderson's, shared her insights on the significance of Chick Day, sharing the event's role in fostering a sense of community and providing a safe, fun environment for families.

"Chick Day is only once a year," she said. "I feel like Anderson's has just really branded itself as a local business that supports the community. Chick Day is just having a safe and fun environment for kids and families to come and be a part of, and you don't have to worry about anything while you're here."

She also noted that the event has a dual purpose, allowing the community to support other local businesses and vendors during the event. "If you're just here having a good time, you're supporting local businesses, because we invite a lot of the local vendors to come. So you're supporting the community, and that's what Anderson's is about."

Regarding the recent rise in egg prices, Wiggins noted that that issue has had a direct impact on this year's chick sales.

"We've been getting chickens in, and the same day have been selling out of chickens. This is our fourth or fifth shipment, and we've sold out every single time."

The high demand for chicks led Anderson's to receive over 1,600 chickens for Chick Day and halt sales in advance to ensure enough chicks for the event.

To stay updated on chick arrivals, Wiggins encourages the community to follow Anderson's on Instagram and Facebook, where they post updates on the morning of chick deliveries and the types of chicks available.

"We keep chicks in stock until they sell out. We have orders going through April," Wiggins added.

Chick Day 2025 was a resounding success, leaving everyone with fond memories and a sense of community spirit. With its diverse range of activities and heartwarming moments, it truly had something for everyone in the family.
