In September, Freedom Through Recovery: Susan Ford RCO hosted its 4th annual Recovery Field Day.

Held at Black Creek Scout Reservation, they celebrated recovery with family and friends. The day included swimming, fishing, a high ropes course, a climbing wall, zip line, and a field day competition.

Sydney Hardee, Vice Executive Director of Freedom Through Recovery, says, “We started the day with a gratitude meeting and lunch, served by 4&20 Bakers. After lunch, we split into teams to compete in the field day events.”

"Recovery Field Day united a diverse group of people from across East Georgia," Hardee said. "In attendance were several different in-patient and residential treatment centers, as well as representatives from recovering motorcyclist associations, church groups, businesses and elected officials. And, of course, our recovery community family and friends."

"This year was the first year (hopefully of many more to come) that we collaborated with Vidalia's Garden's of Hope RCO.”  Hardee shared that Garden of Hope provided peers the opportunity to camp at the Boy Scout reservation, along with food, meetings, and activities.

Hardee said that Freedom Through Recovery’s goal “is to provide many peers with the experience that recovery is REAL and that life can be full of fun without the bonds of substance use.”

FTR also recently hosted a stop of the Georgia Recovers Bus Tour: Families in Recovery. Hardee said, “We can honestly say that it is one of the most impactful events we've ever hosted.”

“Family members shared, alongside people in recovery, about secrets surrounding substance use disorder within a family and how they broke out of bondage through God, treatment, medicated assisted treatment, therapy, peer support, and recovery support groups.
