Fixing the Boro continues free spays and neuters through second annual Neuter Year Celebration

Fixing the Boro recently held their 2nd Annual Neuter Year Celebration, offering free spays and neuters and received an overwhelming response. With the help of a grant awarded last year from the Georgia Department of Agriculture and the generosity of the community, they have been able to fund the spay and neuter of many cats and dogs in our community.

At the beginning of the New Year, Fixing the Boro began their second annual Neuter Year Celebration of free spays and neuters. After they made the 'Happy Neuter Year' post online, they received over 500 emails for assistance.

Sarah Roehm, Executive Director of FTB says, “We have scheduled over 130 appointments at this time."

She explains that “the funds are dwindling quickly, with more people in need that we can assist with this funding, but we will continue fundraising to help as much as we can since that is our main mission: to drop the number of animals in need by stopping senseless births of unwanted cats and dogs.”

Last fall, Fixing the Boro was awarded a dog and cat sterilization grant from the Georgia Department of Agriculture which has allowed FTB assist in spay and neuter of personal owned dogs and cats in the community.

FTB will also be providing a free distemper (DAPPV/FVRCP) vaccine courtesy of the PETCO Love Vaccine Grant.

“Our largest plea, and the idea of our Spay It Forward program, is that we help when we can," says Roehm. "Anyone who would like to 'pay it forward' by donating to help others can as well!"

She explains that the Spay It Forward program receives donations and raises funds year-round to assist with free and low cost spay/neuter.

Roehm says, "It's also the program that helps with the vetting of animals in need of rehoming so we can courtesy list them as adoptable on our website without taking them into rescue fully."

By pledging to sponsor just one dog or one cat, it prevents nearly 567 unwanted animals from being born.

Fixing the Boro is always in need of monetary donations to ensure fewer animals are unaltered in the Statesboro area.
