"Fast-Fire'd" pizzas blazing into University Station

Blaze Pizza should be opening its doors and serving slices to Statesboro by this September. Bulloch County native Grant Watkins is excited to bring the restaurant to his hometown for locals to enjoy.

Blaze Pizza should be serving up its signature fast-fire’d pies in Statesboro as soon as September 2024 according to Grant Watkins, an operating partner of the restaurant.

With construction underway at the budding University Station on Tormenta Way, Watkins says he and his brother/business partner L.B. Watkins are excited to bring the new concept to Statesboro.

“I live in Brunswick, but this is home,” Watkins said while talking about his recent ventures into the Statesboro restaurant scene. Just recently, he took ownership of Shane’s Rib Shack on Brampton Ave., and after a brief closure for renovations, the BBQ spot is back open and serving its customers all of their favorites.

Born and raised here, Watkins attended Georgia Southern University, after which he moved to the Atlanta area and began his career in managing and operating restaurants. He opened and operated three Blaze Pizza franchises in the Atlanta area, and in 2019, he secured the rights for the South Georgia market and opened two more Blaze Pizzas in Brunswick and Valdosta.

Watkins’ 17 years of experience operating restaurants -- and Blaze Pizza’s newly revamped menu -- will hopefully make the restaurant's new location a hot spot for locals to grab a quick slice.

In addition to the Chick-Fil-A that is already open and operating and the Blaze Pizza slated to open this fall, the growing University Station will be home to Southern Liquors, Wayback Burgers, and a Hotworx fitness studio.
