Site preparation has begun in the Southern Crossing shopping center at the corner of Henry Boulevard and Freedom Way. The corner lot is beside Cracker Barrel and across from Olive Garden. It backs up to the S&S Rail Trail.
Justin Williams, Planning and Housing Administrator with the City of Statesboro, confirmed that site preparation has begun for Statesboro's second Mavis Tire. Mavis is a national tire chain operating stores in 21 states according to their website.
As part of the zoning variance, the City is requiring a buffer to be constructed between the tire store and the S&S Trail.
Mavis Tire acquired University Tire and closed it abruptly to begin renovations with no notice to loyal customers of the business. Grice Connect has reached out repeatedly to Mavis for information on their entry into the Statesboro Market. They directed us to their website.
The former store manager for University Tire, Greg Hendrix and University Tires Master Front End Tech Kenny Gil, have joined Cason's Auto Service and Mr. Transmission in Brooklet.
We have no timeline for construction of the new location or the renovations of the former University Tire.
