Inspiring others with her dedication to improving care for homebound, mobility-limited older populations in rural areas, Statesboro nurse practitioner and owner of Above and Beyond Healthcare Services, Nancy A. Hurlock, DNP, AGPCNP-BC was recognized with a South University Alumni Achievement Award.

South University recently celebrated a momentous commencement ceremony in Savannah, Georgia, honoring the achievements of its graduates and distinguished alumni.

A highlight of the event was the recognition of Nancy A. Hurlock, DNP, AGPCNP-BC, Owner and Practitioner of Above and Beyond Healthcare Services LLC, as a recipient of the South University 2024 Alumni Achievement Award. Hurlock also delivered an inspiring commencement speech for graduates and attendees.

Hurlock has demonstrated a commitment to excellence and innovation in healthcare. Her selection as one of three recipients for the 2024 Alumni Achievement Award demonstrates her significant contributions as an Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Entrepreneur, and the current State President of the United Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (UAPRN) organization.

Five years ago, Hurlock founded her practice, Beyond Health Group, with a mission to serve the older community, particularly those in rural areas and those who are homebound or mobility-limited. Her dedication to promoting and expanding Home Based Primary Care has been instrumental in increasing healthcare options for underserved populations. Through her innovative housecall services, Hurlock has brought comprehensive healthcare directly to patients’ homes, improving access to medical care for those unable to visit traditional medical facilities.

During her commencement speech, Hurlock shared her journey and the importance of compassionate, community-focused healthcare. She mentioned her favorite quote, by Martin Luther King Jr. paraphrased, “The ultimate measure of a person is not how he or she conducts themselves in the time of comfort or convenience but how they conduct themselves in the face of adversity.”

She encouraged graduates to pursue their career with passion, perseverance, and a commitment to making a difference in their communities. Her words of wisdom and encouragement were met with enthusiastic applause and left a lasting impression on the new graduates.

She urged graduates, “Cultivate an attitude of resilience and perseverance, further highlighting the importance of lifelong learning.” She spoke about the significance of kindness, empathy, and compassion in both their personal and professional lives."

The South University community celebrated not only the accomplishments of the graduating class, but also the remarkable achievements of Nancy Hurlock. Her dedication to nursing and healthcare continues to make significant impact, embodying the spirit of excellence and service that South University strives to instill in its students.
