Celebrate Recovery will host a free community event at Eastern Heights Baptist Church featuring speaker Jason Starkey. Starkey grew up in West Virginia, where he began his football career securing the offensive line at center on the greatest team in Thundering Herd history at Marshall University alongside Chad Pennington.

Starkey’s college career led to four seasons (2000-2003) with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, where he thought he had everything he wanted until his life took an unexpected turn -- resulting in an end to his football career. Without the title of “football player,” in Starkey’s mind, his identity ceased and led him down the dark road of addiction.

His life story highlights how his “Thundering Herd” brotherhood were a vital part of his recovery, which opened up a path to a new life and faith.

Jason said, “I never dreamt of being an alcoholic or someone in recovery. Now I’ve been sober over 15 years and have a life I never could have dreamt of.”

Jason Starkey will share his story at Eastern Heights Church on Saturday, August 19, from 7-9 p.m. Free childcare is available for children birth-5th grade with a meet and greet following the event. More information can be found at www.facebook.com/celebraterecoveryehbc.
