On Saturday, June 3rd, Bulloch County 4-H and FFA Programs hosted their annual rabies vaccination clinic for pet owners in the community.

This Bulloch County Rabies Clinic is an annual event hosted by a combination of 4-H and FFA programs, as a community service to county residents. Many residents value this annual clinic for its convenience and affordability.

The local areas which the Rabies Clinic serviced were: Middle Ground Store, Portal High School, Langston Chapel Road, Southeast Bulloch, and Nevils Elementary.

The rabies shots were $12, and the entire process took less than 10 minutes to complete for locals who participated in its drive-through process.

Lauren BoykinCounty Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development, provided more information on the clinic. Boykin works under the local extension of UGA's College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. The extension provides resource services to the individual Georgia counties on Agriculture, Natural Resources, and 4-H Youth Development.

“I am the Bulloch County 4-H Youth Administration Agent who works locally with children involved in Georgia 4-H from the 5th-12th grade," Boykin said. "For the rabies clinic today, we have the local FFA chapter present with us from Southeast Bulloch Middle and High School. This group has collectively traveled to each of the rabies clinic locations today."

Proceeds from the clinics will also benefit these local student organizations.

"A portion of the proceeds from today's clinic will go towards the local 4-H and FFA programs here in Bulloch County," Boykin said. "The percentage of proceeds will help support the work that we do with our local 4-H/FFA youth.”

Boykin said that the outcome of the 2023 clinic had been both positive and successful. More than 120 rabies shots had been successfully administered to local pets by Dr. Steve Healy.

Healy also voiced some words of admiration for the local 4-H and FFA students.

“Each of these students' hard work makes a difference in our community," Healy said. "These young people continue to give me hope for our future.”
