Bulloch County Commissioners met for a  special meeting on Friday, August 23, 2024 to set the millage rate for 2025.

With four commissioners present, Commissioners Timmy Rushing and Anthony Simmons were absent, the board approved the general agenda without any changes.

County Manager Tom Couch presented the proposal to decrease the county's millage rate from 12.85 mills to 11.35 mills. He explained that the decrease was due to natural growth from new development in the area. The Board of Education set their millage rate the night before at 7.932. After a short discussion, the commissioners unanimously approved the new millage rates for 2024.

County Attorney Jeff Akins then discussed the Willow Hill Heritage Festival, scheduled for Labor Day weekend. The commissioners approved a food permit for the nonprofit event, which is set to take place at the Willow Hill Heritage and Renaissance Center in Portal.

With no one signed up for public comments, the meeting moved into final remarks. Chairman Thompson thanked everyone for their prayers and support during his recent health issues, sharing that he felt much better. The commissioners welcomed him back, noting that the previous meeting had gone smoothly in his absence.
