Happy Season 2 of my Local Delights Box, GC Friends!
How exciting was that last season of Bulloch County delights?!!
Uber cool, right?
Well, we’re not stopping there!
It’s time to have a bona-fide kick-off to season 2. And what better way to kick-off our Local Delights than with a super impressive KARATE kick?
“HI-YAH!”
(Oh sorry. Didn’t mean to almost kick you in the face there. Hah.)
Looks like I’ll be needing a few more Karate classes before I continue shouting that iconic, action-movie phrase.
So, that’s where Statesboro Karate comes in!
Thank goodness it’s local, convenient, and affordable.
(Because I’m on a laser-focused mission to NOT high-kick my GC friends in the face.)
😬
So, let’s jump on the mat!
Upon entering the Karate School, I was promptly greeted by one of its Head Instructors, Master David Pierson.
David is the son of Clay and Debra Pierson who began their martial arts program 25 years ago in a small trailer in Brooklet, GA.
Over time, the Pierson’s grew their humble beginnings into a local franchise (now known as Statesboro Karate)!
(*David’s brother, Master Daniel Pierson, also serves as Head Instructor at the Karate School. So the entire enterprise is a true family affair.)
Once I stepped inside the training room, David instructed me to bow as a sign of respect before entering onto the mat.
He then placed me at an ending line-up of diversely aged Karate participants, and began our class straightway.
He started by taking us through a few standard karate sequences.
During our class, we learned that one's successful execution of karate movements is dependent upon the mastery of its standard technique sequences.
We also learned that karate is an art-form which should be practiced by individuals of all ages.
(So please don’t be deterred to start your own Karate journey, because you think you’re “too old” to participate.)
Everyone should know how to properly defend themselves at any age!
Regarding the benefits of Martial Arts, David expressed these sentiments:
“The purpose of Martial Arts is to discipline the body and mind. And this is so both faculties work together when choosing your reactions; that way your reactions are based on a skill set, rather than on your emotions. Furthermore, Martial Arts is an ageless art practice. The improvement of motor coordination and confidence is one of the biggest initial changes we see in our students after beginning their Karate journey (regardless of age). We offer many solutions-based payment plans and invite all skill levels to participate in our Karate school.”
So, there you have it folks!
Karate is not just for the aspiring 8-year-old who’s mesmerized by The Karate Kid Movie.
It’s for everyone!
NOW.
Who wants to stand-in as a volunteer and let me practice my newly-refined ‘high-kick’ on ya?
Well…let’s see if I got it first.
“HIII….YIKES.”
Whoa.
Alright friends.
I think I’ll go secure that Statesboro Karate Membership now.
I would say that I’m doing for my safety. But let’s face it:
I’m doing it for yours.
Until next time!
