Believers Church is providing new toys to more than 300 families at its free Christmas Store this year.
Due to the overwhelming response last year and to provide for as many children as possible, families had to pre-apply this year. Currently, the church has reached its limit and can’t take any more applications. However, the organization remains excited to bless the families that will be coming to the store this weekend.
"This is our way of giving back to the community and saying that we love you and God bless you," Terri Hill, Christmas Toy Drive Project Lead at Believers Church, said. "We like to do this event around Christmas time and have helped several hundred families and a total of 1480 children, with each child receiving about 3 gifts each."
Monday, December 4th, was the last day that Believers Church accepted toy drive applications, and this year they received approximately 500-600 applications online.
"We've reached out to 350 applicants to confirm that we were able to provide Christmas toys for them this year," Hill added. "And as we continue receiving toy donations, we look forward to serving the remaining applicants for Christmas this year."
The toy drive was able to serve 370 families and 1480 children this year.
The giving opportunity is a partnership between the church and the local Walmart Distribution Center.
"This event is a donation that Walmart Distribution Center helped provide for Believers Church in order to help the community and families that are less fortunate around this time of year," Hill shared. "We'd like to thank Walmart Distribution Center for their donations and support, and we'd like to thank God for continuing to make all of these things possible."
