The Averitt Center for the Arts will host a gallery opening and reception for Antonia B. Larkin's "Dearly Beloved" on Thursday, January 9, 2025. The reception will take place from 5:30-7:30pm, and Larkin will give an artist's talk at 6pm.

The exhibition will remain on display during regular gallery hours until February 28.

“Dearly Beloved” features new work by Larkin, an interdisciplinary artist based in Savannah, GA. Rooted in the awareness of life and the act of commemoration, this exhibition delves into the interconnectedness of time, tragedy, and renewal.

Using elemental materials such as dirt, and water alongside video and sound, Larkin seeks to create immersive works that explore the fragility and resilience of existence.

This exhibition invites reflection on the ephemeral and the eternal, where beginnings and endings coexist. Through sculptural forms, and the integration of soundscapes and moving images, Larkin emphasizes the transient yet enduring qualities of the natural world. These layered mediums create an environment that evokes both memory and presence, inviting viewers to engage with life and loss.

“Dearly Beloved” highlights the inherent beauty in life’s cycles, paying homage to what has been lost while celebrating the potential for regeneration. Larkin’s practice seeks to challenge Western notions of linearity, offering instead a vision of existence as continuous.

Larkin holds a BFA from Georgia Southern University and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art.

The Averitt Center for the Arts is located at 33 E. Main St. in downtown Statesboro.
