A 14-year-old male juvenile has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday night at Pinewood Manor Apartments on Packinghouse Road.
The Statesboro Police Department (SPD) responded to reports of shots fired shortly after 6:50 pm on January 14th. Upon arrival, officers discovered 17-year-old Nasir Johnson deceased from gunshot wounds. Two other 16-year-old males were also found suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim was airlifted to Memorial Health in Savannah and is listed in stable condition. The second victim was treated at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro and later released.
This was a senseless tragedy that took the life of a young man and injured two others. SPD detectives have worked tirelessly over the past 24 hours to identify and apprehend the suspect in this case.
Following an investigation that included evidence collection, witness interviews, and multiple lines of inquiry, detectives believe the shooting stemmed from a physical altercation between two groups within the apartment complex.
On Wednesday, January 15th, detectives along with members of the department’s SWAT Team served a search warrant at an apartment on Brampton Avenue.
As a result of the investigation, a 14-year-old male juvenile has been charged with one count of Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault. The juvenile has been transported to the Claxton Regional Youth Detention Center where he will await further court proceedings.
