Senator Billy Hickman and Crystal Simpkins, the Bulloch County Board of Education Director of Early Learning and Literacy, spoke to the Archibald Bulloch Chapter, NSDAR, addressing the serious issues of literacy in Bulloch County Schools and across Georgia.
Senator Hickman focused on literacy improvement through legislation and his work with a literacy commission. Simpkins focused on Bulloch County literacy programs, including the Book Bus, Reading Nooks, and Bulloch County Literacy Council work.
Several members volunteered to donate books to the Reading Nooks, especially ‘graphic novels,’ similar to comic books and easier to read for those with reading difficulties.
