The American Legion Dexter Allen Post 90 performed a flag retirement ceremony on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Mattie Lively Elementary School in Statesboro.
The goal of the program was to demonstrate the proper caring for our national symbol. The old, faded, and unserviceable flag was retired by fire, which is the proper method of retiring an old flag. A new, bright U.S. flag was raised in its place by students from Mattie Lively Elementary School.
The ceremony was enhanced by the playing of “Taps” by Tyler Blythe, who had previously attended the school.
