Bulloch Commission Meeting

Bulloch County Commissioners met in a special session on Tuesday, August 22 at 8:30 AM in the Commission meeting room at the North Main Annex.  The Commission agenda included one item:

A motion to Adopt a Resolution to Approve the Millage Rates for Calendar Year 2023.

The Commissioners unanimously approved the Millage Rate increase with no changes.

The Commissioners have held six hours of public hearings, which where attended by hundreds of Bulloch County citizens. Over 50 people spoke during the three hearings, and all spoke in opposition of the tax increase.

This increase will result in a millage rate of 12.850, an increase of 2.814 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 10.036 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $225,000 is approximately $251.01, and the proposed tax increase for a non-homestead property with a fair market value of $200,000 is approximately $225.12.

During the hours of public hearings, the citizens who spoke pleaded with commissioners to lower the rate increase or find other ways to fund the needs without this tax increase.
