Lori Wiggins, Administrative Assistant II for the College of Education’s Elementary/Special Education and Middle Grades/Secondary Education departments at Georgia Southern University, has been awarded the prestigious Betty-Ware Wray Staff Award for 2024. The award, established in 2005 in honor of former Student Advisement and Teacher Certification Coordinator Betty-Ware Wray, recognizes a College of Education staff member who demonstrates exceptional job performance, university service, and a positive image.
Wiggins was lauded for her outstanding initiatives, resourcefulness, dedication, and significant accomplishments in achieving job-related goals. The announcement highlighted her crucial role within the college, noting that “the departments would not function without her,” and further extending that sentiment to encompass the entire College of Education.
“She’s kind of a big deal,” the announcement playfully stated, referencing a sign in Wiggins’ office. It also alluded to her love of “relays” – not of the running variety – and her “few” financial successes, suggesting a passion for financial management. A humorous aside mentioned her potential use of financial gains for a trip to the Daytona 500.
At the time of her nomination, Wiggins was managing responsibilities for two departments within the College of Education, showcasing her remarkable ability to handle a significant workload. Nominators emphasized her hard work, kindness, and supportive nature, describing her as one of the most valued colleagues in the college.
The Betty-Ware Wray Staff Award is presented annually to a full-time College of Education staff member who exemplifies excellence in their role. Recipients must promote a positive image, demonstrate resourcefulness and dedication, and have achieved notable success in their job-related goals. Wiggins’ selection underscores her significant contributions to the College of Education and her dedication to Georgia Southern University.
