Programs and Services: Senior Companion Program, Trusted Riders Program
Description: The Senior Companion Program pairs older adult volunteers with others who may need extra assistance to remain in their own homes. Volunteers engage in tasks such as offering supervision for those who wander or are bed-bound, giving companionship and friendship to isolated adults, assisting with simple chores to maintain living conditions, limited transportation, and preparing light meals. Clients receive in home care at no cost and caregivers receive respite. The Trusted Riders Program pairs young adult volunteers with older and disabled adults to offer a chaperoning service to and from non-emergency medical appointments.
Eligibility: To volunteer for the Senior Companion Program, applicants must be 55 years of age or older, low-income, and able to pass a background check. Senior Companion clients may either be older adults (55 years of age or older) or 21 years of age or older with a disability that would necessitate help. Anyone may sign up to volunteer with the Trusted Riders Program. Trusted Riders clients have the same eligibility requirements as Senior Companion.
