After 36 years and an estimated 75,000 ultrasounds, Jane Hodges is finally hanging up her stethoscope. As the renowned Diagnostic Medical Ob/Gyn Sonographer wraps up her illustrious career, the community is coming together to celebrate her remarkable journey and the profound impact she’s had on countless lives.

Jane’s journey into the world of ultrasound began in 1988, though her roots in medicine stretch back even further. As a 20-year-old Portal native in 1973, she worked as a medical assistant at the Ogeechee Clinic under the guidance of OB/GYN physicians Drs. Richardson, Kent, and Roshto.

When Dr. Sullivan joined the clinic and introduced an ultrasound machine, Jane’s interest was piqued.

Despite her love for triage, she wanted to dive into the world of ultrasounds. She eagerly sought training, working with Dr. Sullivan and Bulloch Memorial sonographer Amanda Lee, and completing a two-month course at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC.

Her dedication paid off as she took on roles at Savannah Perinatology and later at Statesboro ON/GYN, where she reunited with Dr. Sullivan and worked alongside Drs. Washington, Rogers, and Morgan.

Jane’s return to Ogeechee in 2002 marked the beginning of a cherished period in her career, though not without its share of heartbreak. She was deeply affected by the passing of her beloved Dr. Roshto in 2005 and the loss of Dr. Kent in 2011.

Nevertheless, she found solace and purpose working with Drs. Oldham, Hecht, and Mikell, and her work earned her a role as a reviewer for practices seeking accreditation from the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine.

Though she "retired" in 2019, Jane’s heart remained dedicated to serving others. She joined Choices of the Heart, and later, Foundations Resource Center, where her enthusiasm for helping expectant mothers and sharing the joy of hearing their baby’s first heartbeat continued to shine.

Her genuine care and infectious positivity have touched the lives of many, earning her a reputation as a beacon of light and love in the community.
