Statesboro residents are abuzz with the news of two new housing developments set to transform the landscape near the Statesboro Mall area. The developments, located on large tracts of land, promise to bring a total of 236 new homes to the market, catering to a range of housing needs in the community.

The larger of the two projects, situated beside L.A. Waters Furniture on Lovett Road, directly across from the Statesboro Mall, will feature a 216-unit workforce housing apartment complex.

Developed by an Athens, GA-based developer Hillpointe, this project aims to provide quality living spaces for young professionals in the area. Marcus Wiedower, Vice President of External Affairs for Hillpointe, shared details about the 18.56-acre Lovett Road project at a recent City Council meeting.

The apartment complex will offer two-bedroom, two-bath units with amenities such as a clubhouse, cafe, dog spa, resort-sized pool, and cabanas, all designed under federal guidelines for affordable housing.

The development seeks to bridge the gap between luxury living and older properties, offering a modern and convenient living option for residents. In a unique move, law enforcement officers who choose to reside in the complex and park their police cruisers on-site at night will receive a significant discount on rent.

In addition to providing housing solutions, the developer emphasizes community engagement and giving back to the neighborhoods they serve.

The second development, located on Gentilly Road and backed up to the Lovett Road project, will consist of 20 townhomes developed by a local developer, Danny Jones. Spanning approximately 2.96 acres of wooded land with some wetlands, the project aims to create a charming townhome subdivision while ensuring adequate buffering to protect neighboring homes.
