Bulloch County School District students will not be required to make up the classes that were missed due to Hurricane Ian.

The Bulloch County School District closed schools on Sept. 29 and 30 due to the National Weather Service reports, which, at the time, predicted the possibility of tropical storm-force winds due to Hurricane Ian.

In this kind of inclement weather, the school district is concerned with safe road travel, especially for school buses.

On Oct. 4, the district’s superintendent Charles Wilson announced that students would not be required to make up the missed school days.

Wilson reports that the faculty are confident that they can recapture any lost learning throughout the remainder of the semester.

The district does have four make-up days included in its 2022/23 school calendar, two in each semester.

When the district believes lost classroom instruction time cannot be made up within regularly scheduled class days, the superintendent can make the decision to activate one or more weather days.

The days for this year are Oct. 17 and 18 and April 3 and 4.

State Board of Education policy allows school systems to cancel up to four instructional days without scheduling make-up days.
