SPD on the scene of Saturday shooting

Statesboro Police Department (SPD) and Bulloch County EMS responded at 6:20 pm Saturday, August 13, 2022 to a shooting incident which occured at 111 South Apartment, located at 111 Rucker Lane.

When officers arrived on the scene of the shooting they were unable to locate a victim. They immediately secured the scene. Officers were then notified by EGRMC that a male victim of a gunshot had come into the emergency department by car. The victim had suffered a non-life threatening wound to the ankle.

There were reports of a large pool party in the complex when the shots rang out. Multiple shots were reportedly fired, with only one person being struck by gunfire.

Officers were on the scene in minutes and remain in the complex investigating.

111 South is located within walking distance of campus but is not on the Georgia Southern University Campus. The large apartment complex houses students and non-students.

Complex is secure and safe

Statesboro Police Chief Mike Broadhead confirmed that the complex is safe and secure. The shooter has left the scene.

There have been reports on social media that the SWAT team responded. Chief Broadhead confirmed that was not true. There was a large police presence initially, but now only detectives and a few officers remain in the complex.

Chief Broadhead has asked that anyone who witnessed the incident or who has additional information to please speak with officers on the scene or contact SPD at (912) 764-9911. Reports can also be made anonymously via email to tips@statesboroga.gov.
