SPD-Hit-and-Run

Statesboro Police Department (SPD) and Georgia State Patrol have both released a request for the public's assistance in a fatal hit-and-run accident that took the life of TormentaFC player Carter Payne early Saturday morning.

They are specifically asking for citizens (or businesses) who live in the area around Food World on Fair Road, who have ring camera or security cameras, to please review the recordings from around 1:28 am, Saturday, July 9, 2022.

The vehicle who struck Payne was traveling south on Fair Road and obviously continued down Fair Road or may have turned off on a side street around Food World.

SPD request:

"On July 9, our officers responded to a fatal hit and run involving a pedestrian. This case has been turned over to the Georgia State Patrol, however, we are still offering our support. Anyone with information is asked to contact Captain Moore at 912-764-9911 or submit an anonymous tip to [email protected].

The vehicle was headed southbound on Fair Road and the accident occurred directly across from the Food World grocery store. If you live anywhere within the proximity of the accident and happen to own a ring camera, please check them. If you see any signs of a suspicious vehicle, we’re asking that you let us or Georgia State Patrol know.

Thank you in advance.

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the victim. You all deserve answers and we hope to have some for you soon." Statesboro Police Department
