December 19, 1941 – July 26, 2022

Mr. James F. “Jimmy” Akins, age 80, died Monday, July 26, 2022, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility in Statesboro.

The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a 1960 graduate of Portal High School. Jimmy was a machinist by trade, worked in various industries and foundries until opening Akins Machine Shop in 1983, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2001.

Jimmy enjoyed many years of being outdoors, hunting and fishing.
He was a member of the Island Hunting Club.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, John Elzy Akins and Bertis Dickerson Akins and a brother, John Donald Akins.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Ruby Ann Skinner Akins of Statesboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Wyman Harley of Statesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Kathy Akins of Statesboro; a sister, Joann A. Smith of Portal; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Daniel and Donna Deal of Statesboro and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, July 27, 2022, from 10:00am until the funeral hour in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11:00am in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Pastor Brandon Williams officiating.

Interment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Pope, Glenn Deal, Chip Smith, Dustin Jones, J.K. Burnett and Tab Akins.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Island Hunting Club.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, Georgia 30459.
