Recently, the Campus Pride organization conducted a Safe Space Train the Trainer Program. Twelve employees from Ogeechee Technical College participated here in Statesboro.

“Those of us who participated in the program are now certified Safe Space trainers for other faculty and staff here at OTC,” said Christy Rikard, Assistant VP for Student Affairs. “Creating Safe Spaces on campus will help support the safety and academic success of our LGBTQ students.”

The Train the Trainer program provides ways to support LGBTQ students on campus. It is the highest level of training provided by the nationally recognized program conducted by Campus Pride. Additionally, the program focuses on sustainability by giving faculty, administrators, staff, and students the ability to internally train and create additional Safe Spaces on college campuses.

OTC will have internal training during the fall semester for additional faculty and staff to gain Safe Space certification.
