Matt Sawhill served Statesboro and Bulloch County as the Area Manager for Georgia Power Company (GPC) since September 2017 before accepting a position with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). He has been very active in our community and has been a driving force impacting many organizations in our community. Matt was also a great friend to Grice Connect and always responsive to our request for information on power outages in our community. Keeping the community informed, especial in times of outages, was a role he took very seriously.
In addition to his job at GPC, he has formerly served on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and an adviser to Board of the Georgia Department of Economic Development. Matt is a 2014 graduate and 2020-21 Program Chairman of Leadership Georgia. Matt is a 2018 graduate of Leadership Southeast Georgia. He has served and chaired numerous state and local board, including Ogeechee Technical College, United Way of SE Georgia, and the Development Authority of Bulloch County. Matt was honored by the University of Georgia’s National Alumni Association as a 40 Under 40.
Matt and his wife, Mary, both originally from Rome, Georgia have two children and are currently in the process of moving closer to the Tennessee Valley from Statesboro, Georgia. He graduated with a BBA from the University of Georgia and is currently finishing his MBA degree from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.
Matt is now the Director of Government and Community Relations for the Tennessee Valley Authority. His previous work experience includes the Office of United States Senator Saxby Chambliss (GA) and various external relations and economic development roles with Georgia EMC, AGL Resources and Southern Company.
Georgia Power Company has not named a replacement at this time for Matt Sawhill.
