One Dead | Four Injured in Two Saturday afternoon I-16 Accidents

Bulloch County Sheriff's Deputies, Bulloch Fire and Rescue, Bulloch County EMS and GSP responded to two accidents which occurred minutes apart on I-16 in Bulloch County. A Ellabell lady died in the first accident.

The first accident occured at 5:03 PM on Saturday, March 26, 2022 which was a multi vehicle accident on I-16 Eastbound just East of the Ash Branch Church Road, which is Exit 132.

On arrival law enforcement reported that a Chevy Silverado struck an classic Volkswagen Bug on I-16. The vehicles ended in the median between the Eastbound and Westbound lanes. The driver of the Volkswagen was entrapped in the vehicle and believed to be deceased.

Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch confirmed, Deana Morgan Flanagan, 52 from Ellabell, Georgia was the deceased driver of the Volkswagen. She was believed to be killed on impact. The coroner will be sending her body on Monday to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy. This will help determine the cause of death and aid in the accident investigation.

A 56 year old male driver of the Chevy Silverado and 10 year old male passenger were transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center with non life threatening injuries.

Second Accident on I-16

While officers were investigating this accident a few hundred yards West of the accident scene, around 5:30 PM, also on the Eastbound lane of I-16 was a second chain reaction, three vehicle accident. The accident believed to have occured when one car was stopped in the interstate because of the first accident and a second car hit the first car, then a third hit the second car.

Two additional Bulloch County EMS ambulances responded to the second accident and transported four additional people involved in this accident to East Georgia Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

GSP is in charge of investigating both accidents. No additional details were available at the time this story was published.
