Statesboro Fire Department Engine One was the first to arrive on scene minutes after receiving the call. On arrival they reported heavy smoke coming from the building and requested additional firefighters and fire engines.

The cinderblock building included a metal roof, which made it difficult to locate the source of the fire. The proximity to other commercial buildings also made battling the fire more difficult.

Firefighters battled the fire for over an hour and spent another hour on the scene overhauling the building and making sure all of the hotspots were out.

The Statesboro Fire Department CAFE unit responded to assist with refreshing the firefighters and their air supply.

Statesboro Police Department closed several busy streets, including Zetterower Avenue as a safety precaution and to provide access to the firefighters.

Bulloch County EMS responded to the scene as a precaution. There were no injuries reported however.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Statesboro Fire Department will conduct a routine cause and origin investigation.
