Statesboro Police Department has made an arrest in the homicide of an 18 year old from Jesup.

On Wednesday, October 27, 2021 Statesboro Police responded to a report of a shooting at the Vault apartments on Statesboro Place Circle, near the Georgia Southern Campus.

Officers located the male, later identified as Antonio Jackson (18 years old, Jesup, Ga), deceased at the scene from his wounds. 

Jackson was not a student of any local college or university and was not a resident of Statesboro.

In an earlier statement SPD stated the facts point to the presence of multiple individuals inside of the apartment when Jackson was shot and killed.

According to Captain Jared Akins with the Statesboro Police Department, since the date of the homicide, detectives have interviewed numerous persons and gathered large amounts of physical evidence. 

Based on these efforts, Damon Justin Jevon Hines (20 years old, Jesup, Ga) was arrested on on November 3, 2021 and charged with a variety of felony offenses including Party to the Crime of Murder.  Detectives anticipate additional arrests to be forthcoming.  

Hines was charged with:

  • Murder (party to the crime)
  • Theft by receiving stolen property - Felony
  • Marijuana - purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution, or sale - Felony
  • Possession of firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies
  • Obstruction of law enforcement officer - misdemeanor
  • False statements or writings; conceal facts or fraudulent documents in matters of government
  • Tampering with evidence - Felony
