The fire occurred at The Renaissance apartments, located at 1818 Chandler Road near the Georgia Southern University campus.

The first firefighters arrived on the scene at 8:07, three minutes after the call was dispatched by 911. They reported heavy fire and smoke from the second and third floor of an end apartment in the rear of the complex. They also confirmed that the occupants of the apartment and adjoining apartments were able to escape the fire unharmed.

The SFD Battalion Chief requested additional assistance, including firefighters and fire engines which responded from Statesboro and Bulloch Fire Departments.

Because of the rapid response and the remarkable attack of the fire by the firefighters the major fire damage was contained to one two-story apartment. The adjoining apartment and the apartments below appears to have also received heat, water and smoke damage.
