Statesboro Police responded on Sunday, August 22, 2021 to two different houses to perform welfare checks after family members could not reach their relatives.
On arrival at each home SPD officers found the occupants had deceased.
It was soon discovered that each of the ladies were employees of the same Statesboro daycare, Sugar & Spice Child Care Center, located on North College Street in Downtown Statesboro.
Bulloch County Deputy Coroner Richard Pylant reported that both Manequeia Freeman and Leslia McClain were found dead in their respective homes Sunday.
Both ladies had been dead for over a day when police arrived at their homes.
Each of them died of COVID and neither was vaccinated.
Pylant also reports a third daycare employee is hospitalized.
Grice Connect Top Fan who shared COVID information
Ms. Freeman was a top fan of Grice Connect. She would share GC stories, especially the COVID reports warning friends and family about the dangers of COVID.
Six days before she died, she shared a Grice Connect post about the free COVID vaccination site downtown. Unfortunately, even as a top fan, with all the stories we have done on the dangers of COVID and the life saving power of the vaccine, it wasn't enough to reach her.
Because of this tragic loss of life for these two women and 129 others that have been recorded, we will continue to work harder to stop this virus by giving the citizens of Bulloch and surrounding counties, factual information on the deadliness of this virus and the lifesaving power of the vaccine. If you are not vaccinated, please do so to stop the sickness and deaths in our community.
Delta Variant is very dangerous
The Delta COVID variant continues to punish the unvaccinated in our community with extraordinary high positive cases, hospitalizations and now deaths.
Because of the high level of infection of the virus, even some vaccinated have tested positive. However, the most seriously are primarily unvaccinated.
Over 90% of hospitalizations at EGRMC and throughout Georgia are unvaccinated.
Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch said they are responded daily now to COVID death calls. Some days they are responding to as many as three per day. Both Futch and Pylant don't understand why the deaths are being underreported in Bulloch County by GA DPH.
