Senator Billy Hickman has been appointed to the Improving Access to Healthy Foods and Ending Food Deserts (SR 283) study committee.

Thursday, July 1, 2021, Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan announced the members of five Senate Study Committees:

  • SR 281 (Senate Study Committee on Violence against Health Workers)
  • SR 283 (Senate Study Committee on Improving Access to Healthy Foods and Ending Food Deserts)
  • SR 192 (Senate Study Committee on Age of Mandatory Education)
  • SR 151 (Senate Study Committee on Sickle Cell Anemia), and SR 203 (Senate Study Committee on Outdoor Learning)

“The Senate’s priorities reflect those of Georgians across the state: community health and safety, education, and health care,” said Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan. “These study committees will allow our Senators to explore policy solutions to critical issues that impact each Georgia family. Our Senate members work diligently, in and out of session, to ensure Georgia remains a great state to live, work, and raise a family, and I know these study committees will be a continuation of that great work.”

The Senate Study Committee on Violence against Health Workers (SR 281) will be chaired by Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick (R – Marietta). The Senate members appointed to serve on this committee are:

  • Senator Butch Miller (R – Gainesville)
  • Senator Steve Gooch (R – Dahlonega)
  • Senator Valencia Seay (R – Buford)
  • Senator Michelle Au (D – Johns Creek)
  • Senator Sheila McNeil (R – Brunswick)
  • Senator Bo Hatchett (R – Cornelia) Ex- Officio

The Senate Study Committee on Improving Access to Healthy Foods and Ending Food Deserts (SR 283) will be chaired by Sen. Harold Jones II (D – Augusta). The Senate members appointed to serve on this committee are:

  • Senator Steve Gooch (R – Dahlonega)
  • Senator Billy Hickman (R – Statesboro)
  • Senator Russ Goodman (R – Cogdell)
  • Senator Freddie Powell Sims (D – Dawson)

The Senate Study Committee on Age of Mandatory Education (SR 192) will be chaired by Sen. Chuck Payne (R – Dalton). The Senate members appointed to serve on this committee are:

  • Senator Gail Davenport (D – Jonesboro)
  • Senator Lindsey Tippins (R – Marietta)
  • Senator John Albers (R – Roswell)
  • Senator Lester Jackson (D – Savannah)

The Senate Study Committee on Sickle Cell Anemia (SR 151) will be chaired by Sen. Ed Harbison (D – Columbus). The Senate members appointed to serve on this committee are:

  • Senator Gloria Butler (D – Stone Mountain)
  • Senator Kim Jackson (D – Stone Mountain)
  • Senator Tonya Anderson (D – Lithonia)
  • Senator Kay Kirkpatrick (R – Marietta)

The Senate Study Committee on Outdoor Learning (SR 203) will be chaired by Sen. Sheikh Rahman (D – Lawrenceville). The Senate members appointed to serve on this committee are:

  • Senator Sally Harrell (D – Atlanta)
  • Senator Jen Jordan (D – Atlanta)
  • Senator Ed Harbison (D – Columbus)
  • Senator Burt Jones (R – Jackson)

These study committees were established pursuant to SR 151, 192, 203, 281, and SR 283 which the Senate adopted during the 2021 legislative session.
