Mikell Corey Waters, 24, a Bulloch County native, drowned in a Grovetown, Georgia swimming accident on Wednesday, May 26. Grovetown is in Columbia County near Augusta.

According to Scott Wheatley, Director of Public Safety for the City of Grovetown, emergency services received a call around 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 26 reporting that a white male who was swimming in the the quarry at Euchee Creek Trails and Park went under and did not resurface.

Vernon Collins, the Columbia County Corner, reported that the body was recovered at 7:40 PM. Coroner Collins identified the downing victim as Mikell Corey Waters.

Bulloch County Native from Nevils

Corey Waters is a Bulloch County Native who grew up in the Nevils area and graduated from Southeast Bulloch High School. He is the middle child of Martin and Jessica Waters of Nevils. Martin is the Superintendent of Schools for Evans County.

Both Martin and Jessica Waters released tributes to Corey on their Facebook pages last night. They asked for your thoughts and prayers and time to grieve this tragic and sudden loss of Corey.
